How many staff do you actually need?
That question comes up in almost every enquiry, and the answer depends less on guest numbers than on the kind of evening. A plated menu needs considerably more hands than a buffet, because every course is carried out and cleared individually. A reception with canapés and sparkling wine needs few people, but fast ones.
As a rough guide: plated service around one member of staff per twelve to fifteen guests, buffet per twenty to twenty-five, with the bar counted separately. Describe the run of the evening and we work it out for your event — nothing is guessed.
What happens before and after
Laying tables, polishing glasses, setting out chairs: that happens hours before the first guest and counts as working time. So does clearing afterwards, which usually takes longer than anyone expects. Tell us whether setting up and clearing down should be included — otherwise the team is there at the wrong time.
What we need for the enquiry
Date and time, location, guest numbers, type of catering and whether a bar is running. A rough schedule helps too: when the reception is, when dinner is, when the party starts. That tells us how many people are needed for how long.
