Small gatherings are harder than large ones
With a hundred guests, nobody notices who is serving. At a table for six they do. Anyone working in a private setting is in view the whole time and still has to be able to step back — that is a matter of attitude, not technique.
On top of that, the tasks are less sharply defined than in a business. Serving, topping up, clearing, welcoming guests, helping in the kitchen in between: in a household these run into one another. Anyone who only knows one station finds that difficult.
When a butler, when a service assistant
A butler takes responsibility for how the house runs — guests, dinners, stores, often other staff as well. A service assistant takes on the serving itself. If you are not sure which you need: describe the occasion and we will place it.

Dates, how many people are in the house, whether guests are expected and in what setting you serve — from dinner for four to a reception on the terrace. Tell us as well whether someone should live in.
